Assistant Materials Manager
Ajax, Ontario (Plant)

Responsible for overseeing all functions of the Materials Department as directed by the Materials Manager and in his/her absence.


The Role:

Your work will include, but not be limited to:

  • Monitor and take action when necessary on customer build schedules, supplier problems, quality issues, inventory levels and scheduling problems daily.
  • Handles all departmental functions as directed by the Materials Manager, Total Backup.
  • Handles labor issue.
  • Supervises, disciplines, reviews, and counsels’ employees.
  • Attends various meetings.
  • Monitors Material Department performance by charting monthly results.
  • Ensures plant is prepared for model year startups and build outs.
  • Investigates cost savings in transportation of materials.
  • Coordinates major supply problems.
  • Searches for improvements which could be made to plant for waste reduction, cost savings, efficiency improvements, etc.
  • Must comply with Company, Environmental and TS policies/programs and foster continuous improvement.
  • Coordinates green requisition cost recovery document collection and submission to Lear sales.
  • Reviews current policies and practices and makes recommendations for changes if appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance with the following legislation: OHSA, WSIB, Human Rights, Employment Standards, and Labor Relations.
  • Uses and or wears personal protective equipment that the company requires to be used or worn.
  • Performs any other duties as required in pursuance to the function of this position or as directed.
  • Works safely, reporting hazards and unsafe conditions, and takes all reasonable measures to protect themselves, co-workers, and direct reports.
  • Recognizing and understanding the requirements of our internal and external customers and is dedicated to establishing the highest industry standards for quality, value, service & technology.
  • Ensures and understands compliance with harassment within the workplace towards others in the organization.


Your Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Must understand lean manufacturing practices and principles and be able to affect change in an operations environment.
  •  Computer Skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Planning and Organization skills.
  • Time Management and Prioritization skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must be available to work scheduled overtime as required


Bonus If You Have:

  • Post-Secondary Education or Experiential Equivalency
  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in Materials Management or related field is preferred.
  • 3 years’ experience in a Materials function preferably within the manufacturing/ automotive industry.
  • Proven leadership abilities
