As a member of the engineering team, the Manufacturing Engineer provides technical services to the company to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Identifies, researches and implements solutions to resolve problems. Supports production by making process improvements where necessary and provides engineering services to other departments.   Ensures that improvements to processes are statistically capable and in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. 


The Role:

Your work will include, but not be limited to:

  •  Serves as subject matter expert on the manufacturing processes within the plant.
  • Works closely with production, development, quality and the engineering department on manufacturing issues and improvement areas.
  • Investigates, establishes, and implements requirements for equipment, tooling, and methods of production.
  • Investigates and troubleshoots technical problems with processes and/or products.
  • Investigates, troubleshoots, and responds to customer-reported defects as they relate to the manufacturing process. Confers with engineering personnel on product and/or process design changes. Works directly with equipment vendors on resolving equipment and design issues.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
  • Demonstrates ability to determine root-cause of technical problems; identifies and implements comprehensive solutions and verifies the problems have been resolved. Demonstrates knowledge of the TS16949 process and successfully completes required follow up on Non-Conformances and Corrective Actions.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the various codes and laws applicable to standard maintenance and engineering design and repair work (OSHA, ANSI, UL, etc). Acts as liaison to outside departments including Quality, Production, Materials Planning, Finance, HR, Maintenance and Development.
  • Works with Development teams as needed to support new equipment or process improvements.
  • Ability to write detailed equipment specifications or flow charts that encompass complex plant or line processes. Demonstrated ability to redesign an existing machine component or operational process following standard engineering practices to effect improvements and/or meet special customer requirements.
  • Certified trained in at least two of the following: Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen or Six Sigma (green or black belt).
  • Leads large scale, cross-functional teams or groups; serves as leader or co-leader on at least one of the company’s key initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and develop a new machine or operational process using improved or untested technology to effect improvements and/or meet special customer requirements.
  • Develops and delivers detailed training; creates curriculums and tools for advanced mechanic or engineer training on new equipment or process concepts.
  • Provides supervision or management and direction to technical staff.
  • Contributes significantly to the strategic direction of the Guilford Continuous Improvement team and company as a whole.


Your Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Chemistry, Materials, Textile Engineering) or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior related work experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
