Title:  Data Scientist  

Location: Southfield, MI





Lear is looking for an experienced Data Scientist, or Data Science professional that will be responsible for overseeing the collection, storage, and interpretation of data for an industry 4.0 project team. As a candidate you will be able to sift through data points to create organized categories, comparing data points to current company processes and writing reports outlining business predictions or proposals. The ideal candidate will be skilled in data science principles and has worked within a multi-function business environment, including IT and manufacturing.  Experience in providing detailed direction, meeting aggressive deadlines and being an excellent communicator are a must.




    • Utilize analytical, statistical, and programming skills to collect, analyze, and interpret large data sets. Then use this information to develop data-driven solutions to solve difficult business challenges.
    • Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions.
    • Mine and analyze data from company databases (cloud data warehouse) to drive optimization and improvement.
    • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
    • Develop customer data models and algorithms to apply to data sets.
    • Use predictive modeling/ML to increase and optimize business outcomes.
    • Coordinate with different functional areas to implement robust models and monitor outcomes.
    • Develop processes to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy.
    • Assist with choosing the proper tool set architecture to support long term data transformation strategy.
    • Manage post launch support and product enhancement implementation activities.






Required Skills:

  • Master or PHD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or another quantitative field.
  • + 5 years of proven experience in Data Science / Scientist role.
  • Coding knowledge and experience with several languages: C, C++, Java, Java Script.
  • Knowledge and experience creating and using machine learning algorithms and statistics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on product development.
  • Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SLQ, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
  • Experience working with and creating data architectures.
  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams.
  • A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.
    • Technical background in understanding manufacturing concepts like MES, ASRS, JIT, JIS preferred. 
    • IT knowledge in SQL, windows, data warehousing, data integration and dashboard reporting tools is preferred. (Snowflake, QDI, Pro2 and Microsoft Power BI experience a plus).
    • Experience working on highly visible, fast paced projects within business, IT and manufacturing.
    • Outstanding ability to clearly and tactfully articulate problems and resolutions.
    • Highly organized with project management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and demanding customer.
    • The ability to work independently and to collaborate cross-functionally.
    • High quality presentation and communication skills.
