Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Materials Manager to work in a high-performance self-directed work team environment and partner with our management team to align our Materials department initiatives and functions with the objectives of the business. 


  • On a daily basis, monitor and take action when necessary on customer build schedules, supplier problems, quality issues, inventory levels and scheduling problems.
  • Handles labour issue, including Step 2 Grievances.
  • Supervises, disciplines, reviews and counsels’ employees.
  • Attends various meetings.
  • Monitors Material Department performance by charting monthly results.
  • Ensures plant is prepared for model year start ups and build outs.
  • Investigates cost savings in transportation of materials.
  • Coordinates major supply problems.
  • Searches for improvements which could be made to plant for waste reduction, cost savings, efficiency improvements, etc.
  • Must comply with Company, Environmental and TS policies/programs and foster continuous improvement.
  • Completes obsolete claims on Chrysler system.
  • Reviews current policies and practices and makes recommendations for changes if appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance with the following legislation: OHSA, WSIB, Human Rights, Employment Standards, and Labour Relations.
  • Uses and or wears personal protective equipment that the company requires to be used or worn.
  • Performs any other duties as required in pursuance to the function of this position or as directed.
  • Works safely, reporting hazards and unsafe conditions, and takes all reasonable measures to protect themselves, co-workers and direct reports.

  • High School Diploma
  • Must have an understanding of lean manufacturing practices and principles and be able to affect change in an operations environment.


  • Post Secondary Education or Experiential Equivalency
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Materials Management or related field is preferred.



  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

  • Supervisory experience preferably within a unionized environment.


  • 5-7 years experience in a Materials Department preferably within the manufacturing/ automotive industry.
  • Proven leadership abilities.
