The Customs Supervisor EMEA will support the Customs and Trade Manager EMEA in ensuring customs compliance in a group of countries located in the EU, with the main focus on Germany. Other assigned countries include Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Moldova.


Location: Oberding, Bremen, Remscheid, Besigheim, Eisenach, Bersenbrück, Eisenach, Ginsheim-Gustavsburg


Position responsibilities will include (but may not be limited to) 


  • Support and advise the business on Customs and Export Controls queries 
  • Manage communication with Customs authorities in Germany
  • Support customs audits and communication with tax authorities in the assigned countries
  • Support sales and sourcing to require/provide relevant information on origin documentation, customs and export control classification 
  • Partner with other business areas to deliver core objectives (e.g. Central Logistics)
  • Review and support preferential origin calculations
  • Advise the different locations on customs classifications as required
  • Maintain current customs authorizations (e.g. AEO, approved exporter, authorized exporter)
  • Monitor the performance of customs brokers
  • Manage the communication with customs brokers, and support the preferred broker program in the assigned countries
  • Perform regular customs risk assessments of various locations
  • Coordinate the yearly submission of Energy tax returns in Germany with the support of external consultants and the operation
  • Ensure creation of processes and work Instructions in cooperation with the local teams
  • Support Customs Data Automation projects



To be a success in this role you must have:


  • Foreign trade specialist apprenticeship (Ausbildung), apprenticeship at the German customs administration (Ausbildung) or equivalent experience or Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Progressive education through expert seminars on customs topics will be appreciated.
  • Several years of relevant experience with customs compliance
  • Good theoretical and practical (hands-on) knowledge on EU customs legislation
  • Expert knowledge on EU preferential origin and customs classifications
  • Experience (re-)defining, documenting and implementing processes desired
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, both English and German. Other languages are advantageous.
  • Proven experience on interacting with German customs. 
  • Highest level of integrity and Compliance mindset
  • Experience completing customs compliance assessment would be a plus. 
  • Strong analytical mind
  • Intercultural skills: living or working experience abroad would be advantageous
  • Customer focus
  • Expert knowlegde on Excel and Powerpoint.
