SENIOR PRODUCT ENGINEER
SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN – WORLD HEADQUARTERS

 

As a member of the E Systems team, the Senior Product Engineer for Vertical Integration (VI) is responsible to lead the scaling of Lear manufactured components and sub-assemblies into our wire harness designs.

 

The Role:

Your work will include, but not be limited to:

  • Lead cross functional teams to identify opportunities that increase Lear revenue on our wire harness designs using existing “off the shelf” components or through the development of new product designs. 
  • Perform design feasibility assessments using 2D prints / 3D CAD data.
  • Track all VI ops in one central location including critical project information leading to the ability make strategic decisions, prioritization of the ideas, and proper resource allocation. 
  • Support the development of project business cases.  Perform where-used assessments, global read across studies, and drive cost studies processing at program level.
  • Aggressively drive the execution of feasible idea through component or application validation, customer approval, and implementation. 
  • Interface directly with the customers as a matched pair with the Connection Systems team to define component validation requirements, obtain customer approvals, and general next steps to execution.  Promote the Lear components to the OEMs on Lear and non-Lear business.  Drive the OEM to conduct global read across activity.
  • Provide monthly / quarterly vertical integration reports showing status and forecasted improvement towards the regional / global VI target.  Show a measurable improvement compared to the baseline calculated in January 2024 and meet financial forecast commitments.
  • Lead VI Workshops and Benchmarking events.   
  • Identify, resolve, escalate roadblocks to expedited implementation.

 

The Hour-by-Hour Task Breakdown with percentages:

  • 50% Information management - gathering / sharing.  (Excel, Power Point)
  • 40% Internal meetings and reporting
  • 10% Customer interaction

 

 Your Qualifications:

  • BSME, BSEE or relevant engineering degree 
  • Wire harness design experience
  • Connection systems experience
  • Must be highly organized
  • Possess strong leadership skills and the ability to foster a team environment
  • Possess strong verbal/written communication skills
  • Able to use CAD as a design review tool
  • Proficient with MS office software. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Work within a global team environment
