EH&S Manager

Leads the Leather Division in all aspects of Sustainability activities.

Reports to LDO VP

No direct reports at this time.  Proposed to have one Sustainability Engineer report to this position

Oversees all aspects of LDO’s sustainability programs. Designs and develops corporate sustainability strategies in conjunction with overall Lear’s ESG corporate strategies to ensure that business practices, products, and services are environmentally friendly and compliant with government rules and regulations.  Promotes and explains the organization's sustainability philosophy to internal and external audiences/customers.  Reports LDO’s sustainability operating results to Lear corporate ESG. Fulfills LDO’s customer sustainability inquires and compliance requests.     Create sustainability benchmarks for Global Operations with oversight and guidance to Global Operations sustainability projects

The Role:

Your work will include, but not be limited to:

  • Act as single point of contact for all customers and manage customer inquiries
    • Develop and maintain relationships with customer sustainability leaders
  • Lead customer sustainability strategy to ensure desired outcomes
  • Understand and communicate competitive landscape by working with customers and ESG team to know:  Lear ESG ratings, strategy and execution plan and to ensure that customer expectations are met.  Understand competitive landscape including ESG strength and weaknesses via competitive benchmarking
  • Work with product development, engineering, purchasing and operations to ensure that customer requirements are understood and to share the voice of the customer for the purpose of:
    • Identifying opportunities to capitalize on competitive advantages (i.e., 100% renewable, deforestation free, carbon neutral, etc.)
    • Understand & communicate sustainability contract requirements and ensure that Lear quotation responses comprehend them
  • Proactively communicate customer requirements for new business awards to operations and program management teams so that they can ensure that requirements can be met and have been comprehended in their cost analysis
  • Advance notice to operations and ESG team of customer sustainability audit requirements as part of new business awards
  • Drive key initiatives with supply base, including: Sustainable supplier and product identification, supplier sustainability performance engagement, supplier score card analysis for new business awards.
  • Work with buyers, legal, finance & ESG teams to incorporate overall supplier risk into sourcing decisions, including NQC assessment scores
  • Lead & support supplier quality to respond to controversies, screen new suppliers  and to ensure corrective action with corresponding score card updates that reflect performance and adherence to roadmaps with surveillance as required
  • Work with sales and program management to understand new business award sustainability requirements and ensure that new suppliers meet minimum requirements prior to new business award
  • Provide direction, guidance, and technical advice to the global sites in the areas of Sustainable/Environmental best practice and compliance, and ensure requirements are in place to protect the environment.  In doing so, collaborate effectively with regional EHS, Operations and other leaders.
  • Ensure programs and processes are in place to ensure year-over-year improvement of energy, waste and water metrics, meeting or bettering Lear regional and corporate goals specific to each.   Lead the overall implementation of Lear’s energy playbook, and subsequent playbooks specific to water and waste.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data submittal from our global sites with respect to reporting of energy, waste, water and other data inputs.
  • Support Energy Management activities including audits, training and execution assistance where needed.
  • Assist with CDP and other ESG (customer, investor) related reporting where needed
  • Support other environmental activities related to Lear’s supply chain where needed

 

 

Your Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Excellent human relations skills
  • Prefer B.S.  degree (related to Environmental Science); Minimum 10 years of experience in EH&S. Depending on background the 10 years may be waived.

 

Leather processing experience preferred
