StoneShield Engineering was the former name of the Castelo Branco site, a Portuguese automation company founded in 2017. Located in Castelo Branco, a city in central Portugal near Covilhã and Fundão, it is about 230 km northeast of Lisbon. The company specialized in developing automation and robotic solutions for manufacturing.
In 2024, StoneShield was acquired by Lear Corporation as part of Lear’s strategy to strengthen its internal automation capabilities. Since the acquisition, the site has been fully integrated into Lear and is now focused on producing automation systems exclusively for Lear’s global manufacturing operations, especially within the Seating and E-Systems divisions.
The facility is currently undergoing transformation into an internal automation and innovation hub, with 29 employees today and a plan to grow to 50 as operations expand.
