Position overview:
The EH&S Manager is responsible for guiding the Sunderland seating and foam teams toward exceptional performance in safety, environmental stewardship, and health & wellbeing. This role focuses on fostering a "Safety First" culture to achieve the goal of an accident-free workplace while ensuring compliance with corporate standards and legal requirements. The manager will identify and implement best practices, leverage opportunities for cross-functional alignment, and actively engage employees across all areas. Additionally, they will drive initiatives to meet and surpass the plant's sustainability targets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the EH&S team across the foam and JIT plants, driving standardization and elevating performance standards.
- Promote and implement training and development programs for the EH&S team and other key contributors, enhancing performance and culture.
- Advance diversity initiatives through GROW, targeted talent acquisition, succession planning, strategic job assignments, and promotions.
- Exemplify Lear Leadership Model values to set high standards for the operations team.
- Actively contribute to the Sunderland Senior Leadership Team, shaping and executing the site’s vision, strategy, and goals.
- Conduct regular coaching sessions with direct reports and identify high-potential leaders for development, with a focus on diversity.
- Inspire and lead teams to exceed key performance indicators (WOS/MOS, OIP, plant of the future, etc.).
- Collaborate with functional teams to drive improvements and cultural change, targeting a zero-accident site through behavioral safety initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with corporate playbooks, standards, and external regulations through effective programs.
- Develop and implement processes to achieve best-in-class 5S and ergonomic standards across all operations.
- Maintain zero non-conformances in internal and external audits.
- Foster an inclusive culture with clear expectations, holding team members accountable to high standards.
- Ensures a safe working environment, follow, support, and maintain working practices, comply with all relevant HSE legislation and local policies and procedures.
Key skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of five years proven experience in HSE Management, preferably in manufacturing
- Fluency in English language both written and verbal
- Experience of ISO 9001, 45001 and 14001, facilities management, 5S, Kaizen and CE marking.
- Experience is the field of Construction Health & Safety including a working knowledge of CDM regulations is preferable but not essential.
- Strong work ethic, problem solving skills and resilience under pressure.
- Positive, proactive attitude with excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage across all organizational levels
- IEMA or equivalent environmental qualifications and mental health awareness
- Proficiency with MS Office and ability to handle HSE documentation and audit requirements
- Knowledge of applicable rules and regulations for environmental control and other regulatory authorities as needed to ensure compliance.
