Warp Knit Construction Engineer


  • To aid in overall product design of warp knit fabrics within Guilford via a thorough understanding of Warp Knit machinery, fabric constructions, yarn & fiber technologies and global automotive and general design trends.
  • Design and construction layout of fabrics to meet aesthetic, performance, and manufacturing cost requirements of Guilford’s customer base. 
  • This position will entail working closely with global engineering, design and sales departments both internal and at OEM’s to ensure design, aesthetic and cost targets are satisfied as well as meeting customer technical requirements.



  • Interpretation of OEM and internal design briefs with creative flair into innovative constructions

  • Work with the, design, sales, and engineering teams, to create new and innovative products which meet customer expectations for design, aesthetics, technical performance and cost targets from design brief to business award

  • Determine optimum raw materials and constructions for each individual development

  • Use knit CAD systems to create knit designs and constructions.

  • Review the outcome of each trial for appearance, test performance and manufacturing feasibility, devise improvements and countermeasures

  • Visit OEM design and technical contacts as necessary to perform the role.

  • Provide innovative options for machinery choice and be abreast of the latest available machinery.

  • Work with engineering teams to establish optimum finishing routes for each product

  • Work closely with yarn suppliers to drive development of new raw materials



  • Specific skills required

    • Ideally 3 to 5 years experience

    • Textile Engineering degree

    • Role requires a combination of Math’s and Creativity – its technical design/construction

    • Candidate must have high standards with regard to attention to detail and organisation skills

    • Inquisitive mind needed – want to know why and how it works
