EHS MANAGER
MONTGOMERY, AL
The EHS Manager will support and further the safety and environmental process established at Lear Montgomery, by strengthening the safety program including worksite evaluations, control of hazards, environmental exposure, and training of employees.
The Role:
Your work will include, but not be limited to:
- Develops and delivers new hire orientation as it relates to workers' compensation and/or health and safety issues
- Coordinates getting employee to doctor when injury occurs and follow up to ensure condition is being addressed.
- Coordinates doctor's visit to facility to understand the workforce and workflow of the plant.
- Sends first FAST FAX claim information within 48 hours of occurrence.
- Coordinates, Conducts and/or assists with accident investigation of all accidents/injuries to root cause(s) each incident.
- Obtains doctor's assessment and return to work instructions immediately upon employee's visit as needed to document restrictions and make the necessary determinations.
- Ensures restrictions are definitive and pertain only to medical conditions and are appropriate for type of injury
- Ensures doctor has identified a return visit date, if necessary.
- Challenges type of restrictions, length of restrictions, and lost time days and/or events, when appropriate.
- Communicates with company workers compensation representatives, nurse case manager, and workers' compensation attorney to manage case and ensure case is moving towards closure to include reserves, MMI, and other relevant information.
- Adheres to the appropriate work duty process to include meeting with team leaders and employees to explain restrictions and relevant procedures and ensure that employee is put in an appropriate job and track for compliance to restrictions.
- Tracks employees in appropriate work program and ensure the program is properly managed.
- Leads ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
- Maintains records, schedules, meetings, and prepares plant for annual audits.
- Attends worker's compensation hearings, when required.
- Ensures all accidents are investigated in a timely manner and a root cause with corrective actions is identified.
- Maintains OSHA log and supplemental report of injuries/illnesses.
- Prepares for and facilitates meeting to review OSHA log accuracy and obtain certification signature of OSHA log by highest ranking official at the plant.
- Provides statistical analysis of injuries to safety committee/plant manager and assess where injuries are occurring and develop a plan of action to reduce injuries.
- Ensures in-plant first aide procedures are in place and activity is communicated to workers' comp liaison.
- Coordinates CPR, first aid training, and blood borne pathogens training and maintain training records.
- Ensures compliance with OSHA health standards: blood borne pathogens, hearing conservation, respirators.
- Maintains necessary first aid supplies.
- Maintains current knowledge of OSHA standards, develop, and implement written programs to ensure compliance (Hazard Communication, Control of Hazardous Energy, PPE, Hearing Conservation, etc.) per the Key Elements.
- Ensures compliance with human element recommendations from fire insurance company are implemented, as agreed between Lear and the insurance company: welding permit, smoking policy, inspections, emergency plan, and housekeeping.
- Develops and implements an emergency response plan.
- Establishes a safety committee, develop roles/responsibilities/coordinate meetings/attend meetings/ensure action items are tracked to completion.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite software (Word, Excel, Access, Project) required.
- Knowledge of Lear’s organizational rules, regulations, procedures, and practices as needed to oversee processes and human resources.
- Knowledge of applicable rules and regulations for environmental control and other regulatory authorities as needed to ensure compliance.
- Knowledge of regulatory activities such as EEO, AAP, OSHA/Safety, Worker's Compensation, Unemployment, FMLA and FLSA as needed to ensure compliance.
- Knowledge of First Aid and CPR practices as needed to teach and/or provide life sustaining assistance.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to take an unpopular stand when necessary.
- Ability to analyze problems to include asking the appropriate questions and gathering additional information to identify causes of and solutions to problems.
- Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization as well as dealing with customers and vendors for the effective and efficient meeting of goals and requirements.
Special Requirements:
- Professional qualifications in Safety Engineering and Ergonomics.
- Must be willing to work overtime, either before or after the normal starting times and on weekends.
- Must be willing to be on call 24 hours a day.
Your Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related area and three (3) years practical experience and knowledge of engineering methods (preferably automotive), knowledge of OSHA standards and reporting requirements, knowledge of ISO14001 (auditor certification preferred), trained in accident investigation, first responder / first aid, AED, blood borne pathogen training (preferred). Familiar with state and national environmental programs and requirements.
