ANALYTICAL TESTING ENGINEER

EAGLE OTTAWA – ROCHESTER HILLS RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT FACILITY

DAY SHIFT – ONSITE

 

As a member of the testing team, the Analytical Testing Engineer will be responsible for accurately performing a range of chemical and mechanical testing duties in a lab setting, as a member of a team for research and development purposes. This role requires learning about various techniques, testing protocols, production equipment, lab equipment, and chemical products. Serve as a crucial part in the creation of new products while ensuring that we consistently deliver accurate, timely, and high-quality test results.

 

The Role:

Your work will include, but not be limited to:

  • Manage test inventory within the cell assignments, process materials by first in first out scenario, leverage grouping and ques based on efficiency.
  • Monitor and track inventory levels of all test supplies and consumables, purchasing any new supplies as needed.
  • Perform other duties which may be assigned, as necessary.
  • Attend training programs as indicated by the supervisor.
  • Properly log test results using Microsoft Excel and Word. Set up and maintain current, precise, and systematic records for the quality system.
  • Accurately report results following reporting format in BPCS software.
  • Verify that specimen identification is correct on all test record sheets and in the correct format for data input to BPCS software.
  • Report noteworthy items directly to supervisor or manager and contact PD engineer associated to a program when any reporting is found that would warrant PD involvement.
  • Perform cleanup of laboratory equipment, glassware, lab benches, etc. at the end of the workday to maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment.
  • Participate in 5S activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and hazmat rules and regulations.
  • Gain a fundamental understanding of production equipment, lab equipment, finishing products, processes, and procedures.
  • Execute tests by accurately and strictly adhering to all work instructions and testing techniques.
  • Ensure that all test equipment is operating correctly and report any problems to the laboratory manager and calibration engineer.
  • Required testing includes:
      • Use of Kern Moisture Analyzer
  • ASTM D2810 - Determination of pH in leather by Thermo-Scientific pH meter
      • Chrome Content by ICP
      • ASTM D3495 - Hexane Extraction of Leather (Fat Content)
      • ISO 4048 - Fat Content by Dichloromethane Extraction
      • ISO 17726-1 - Formaldehyde Content by HPLC Analysis
      • ISO 17726-2 - Formaldehyde Determination by Spec 20
      • VDA 278, GMW15634 - VOC by GC
      • BZ107, TSM 0508G, NES M0402 - HPLC: Aldehydes & Ketones
      • BZ107, TSM 0508G, NES M0402 - GC: Bag method; VOC; FOG; DTX
      • VDA 277, PV3341 - GC Headspace (leather sample tested directly)
      • Solvent/water bleeds

 

Your Qualifications:

  • Science-related bachelor’s degree.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in related field.
  • Able to understand (read/write) and speak English.
  • Technical experience working in a laboratory environment with various instruments to determine a chemical’s properties like pH, viscosity, density, % solids, etc. is preferred but not a requirement.

Position Specific Requirement:

  • Ability to communicate and work in a team setting helping chemists and senior lab technicians or engineers to complete their projects in a timely manner.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail when performing tests and recording results.
  • Willingness to learn how to operate and troubleshoot methods and equipment.
  • Ability to read and write in the English language.
  • Ability to precisely follow the procedures and routines necessary to complete assigned tasks.
  • Must be willing to help other team members with tasks as may be requested by the supervisor.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Able to stand for prolonged time in a specific location performing repetitive motions.
