MANAGER PD WET END
ROCHESTER HILLS, MICHIGAN - PLANT

 

Technical development of crust from wet blue to unfinished leather, including the choice of chemicals, processing parameters, and drying. Manufacturing and quality support on wet end related issues.  Responsibility for wet end sample department including wastewater.

 

The Role:

Your work will include, but not be limited to:

  • Sample department: Works independently and in a timely manner from start of the hide request to the final inspection and hand over to finishing. Perform outgoing inspections to ensure quality of products meets expectations and specifications                                                                                               
  • Product improvement: Implement new chemistry or alternative methods to improve existing articles aesthetically and in lab testing. Organize trials, choosing hides and processes, submit materials to lab and summarize results and next steps                                                                                                  
  • Product Development:  Develop new articles and colors or modify existing ones to meet customer’s needs
  • Alternative hides (raw hides, wet blue, and crust leather): Support purchasing team with evaluation of new supplier submissions
  • Global chemical strategies: Help develop a global approved chemical list with backup solutions. Use EHS system to bring in new chemistry for evaluation.
  • Project management: Use of one pager, PSR forms, A3 forms, convergence plans, period reports and Action Item Registers where applicable
  • Wastewater management: Ensure wastewater limits are met and support EHS in waste water related efforts

 

 

Your Qualifications:

 

  • The most appropriate education is a university or technical education in leather technology and leather development
  • Must be able to speak/understand/read/write English
  • Automotive leather experience preferred, shoe, garment, aviation, or furniture leather experience acceptable
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of leather making process and interaction of materials and chemicals used to produce leather. Knowledge of machines used in leather manufacturing
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations to determine process costs, area impact of production factors, formulations, and others
  • Computer skills to write reports, presentations, and formulations
  • Ability to work on numerous different projects at once. Judgment of priorities based on demands from samples department, sales, or quality
