MATERIALS COACH
FLINT, MICHIGAN – FLINT PLANT
As a member of the Materials team, the Materials Coach will be responsible for overseeing end‑to‑end materials operations - including inventory accuracy, logistics coordination, equipment oversight, personnel training, and continuous improvement - to ensure safe, efficient, and timely material flow that supports all production and shipping requirements.
The Role:
Your work will include, but not be limited to:
- Review all hi-lo checklist daily and call-in repair as needed. Count parts and validates on hand inventory when needed.
- Calling in and follow up on all trailer repair orders as needed.
- Oversee operation of AGV’s, diagnose, fix, and communicate any faults needed to maintenance.
- Ensure part labels up to date on racks/bins for all lines.
- Coordinate with suppliers and carriers with scheduling and movement of production materials.
- Tracks inbound freight with carriers and vendors to ensure timely delivery.
- Verification and posting of inbound material through ASN procedures.
- Verifies outbound trailers for product left on trailer and ensures dunnage counts are accurate.
- Complete daily housekeeping walks and address any non-conformances timely.
- Reports all departmental deficiencies to Assistant Material Manager/Superintendent.
- Completes Material Supervisor checklist and complete walks with next shift coach daily.
- Keep hourly employee files up to date with contacts, disciplines, and training matrixes.
- Assist team leader with completing all paperwork for truck drivers.
- Communicate shortages to materials planners.
- Validate material locations through daily audits and update WMS system as needed.
- Train all material personnel on forklift operations and follow through logged training period.
- Assist and cover shipping clerk as needed to ensure on time delivery to JIT customers.
- Cover receiving clerk as needed and make sure all inbound trailers unloaded to schedule.
- Assist all material personnel with any scanning issues.
- Ensure all parts are stored in correct locations according to PFEP/WMS setup.
- Ensure all team leaders have completed all required tasks along with payroll signoffs for the week.
- Verify receiving and shipping logs are up to date for each shift.
- Assist in other material operations as needed to cover vacations.
- Flexibility to work weekend overtime and other shifts for the materials department.
- Participate in at least one kaizen even through the year through completion.
- Participate in continuous improvement suggestions and follow through to completion.
- Locates all HOT seats and ensure timely availability by coordinating efforts between production, material, and quality reviews.
- Maintain constant material flow within plant from sub assembly modules to JIT lines for builds.
- Maintain communication with customer plant Materials department as needed.
- Checks and updates parameters for material ordering system to ensure timely delivery to JIT production lines.
- Ensures all quality sort material has been sent to quality and inventory has been moved in the WMS system.
- Complete all accident investigation forms and follow proper procedures along with communication to management team for follow up.
- Training and growth development coach for all material departmental team leaders.
Your Qualifications:
- 4-year degree or prior equivalent field related experience
