QUALITY ENGINEER
LOUISVILLE, KY – LOUISVILLE PLANT
As a member of the quality team, the Quality Engineer will be responsible coordinating IATF 16949 functions along with Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities and monitoring the performance of suppliers to ensure compliance with quality standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
The Role:
Your work will include, but not be limited to:
- Communicate and collaborate with corporate supplier quality, seat engineers, and the development team.
- Manage Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and profile activities.
- Track, develop, and implement Engineering Change Notices (ECN).
- Actively verify supplier corrective actions, including receiving inspections and overseeing the return of discrepant materials to suppliers.
- Engage in Plant Level Supplier Development implementation and tracking, including receiving inspections, third party audit tracking, part certification dates, and Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) reviews.
- Issue and maintain Quality Notices (QNs) through the Supplier Quality Tracking System (SQTS), including issuing chargebacks for costs incurred due to defects.
- Receive, review, and approve all PPAP submissions for non-directed suppliers into Lear Louisville.
- Submit customer requests for PPAP approval through GM/International portals.
- Participate in problem-solving and corrective actions for customer and internal issues.
- Maintain and communicate Returned Goods to Vendor (RGV) notifications, including defect notifications to suppliers, requesting Return Material Authorizations (RMAs), and maintaining chargebacks/cost recoveries through CAPS, PeopleSoft, and Finance.
- Produce and complete corporate internal reports, including Management Operating System (MOS) report such as chargebacks and Supplier-Related Parts Per Million (SRPPM).
- Maintain supplier contacts and documentation.
- Perform/Lead/Manage internal audits for International Automotive Task Force (IATF) 16949 to closure.
- Perform any other duties as required in pursuance of the function of this position or as directed.
- Actively support daily production operations with a quality-based approach.
Your Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s (4-year) degree in an engineering or related field
- 3-5 years of Quality Engineering experience in an automotive quality environment.
- Ensure understanding and implementation of agreed quality parameters and product specific requirements.
- Strong understanding of statistics, problem solving, manufacturing processes, and computer experience.
- Understanding and use of problem-solving tools (e.g., Fishbone Diagram, 3x5Y, Is-Is-Not, 8D, etc.)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Planning and organization skills with a high attention to detail.
- Time management and prioritization skills.
- Experience with IATF, customer, and internal audits. Lead auditor experience a bonus.
Bonus If You Have:
- The ability to supervise plant quality personnel during vacation and absence periods of the Quality Supervisor.
- Sufficient at implementing methods to inspect, test and evaluate the reliability of manufacturing processes, products, and production equipment.
- Possess application knowledge of PPAP, APQP, FMEA, SPC, TQM, etc. methodology.
