SENIOR CONTROLS & AUTOMATION ENGINEER
MONTGOMERY, AL
This is highly skilled and technical work managing and installing automation and controls systems design, specifying equipment, programming, simulation and testing, and start-up assistance to include automation failure troubleshooting, PLC/HMI programming updating/modification, PLC/HMI documentation creation/modification, quality gate modification, updating, troubleshooting, robotics, vision systems, and Torque Control Box/Gun Programming and modifications.
The Role:
Your work will include, but not be limited to:
- Creates panel designs and layouts, bill of materials, and wiring schematics.
- Reads and red-lines electrical schematic drawings.
- Provides support of manufacturing operations to all shifts.
- Initiates, implements, and tests change controls to include devising the required corrective actions and process improvements, and manufacturing investigations to both the process and equipment.
- Identifies potential automation issues and reports to the appropriate personnel.
- Coordinates implementation and testing with relevant departments and personnel
- Maintains automation documentation such as functional specifications, recipe parameter tables, and standard operating procedures.
- Provides PLC/HMI programming support for equipment upgrade projects.
- Assists in troubleshooting electrical problems on existing equipment.
- Creates the electrical design for new equipment and infrastructure projects.
- Assists Six Sigma team efforts with software and hardware support.
- Manages projects of various scopes and sizes to design, install, and modify plant equipment, processes, and facilities.
- Provides electrical design of automation and control systems from field devices to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) platforms.
- Ensures all designs conform to all applicable codes and regulations such as OSHA, NEC, and NFPA.
- Provides control engineering support on all commissioning and validation initiatives.
- Assists in developing control system standards and engineering procedures.
- Participates on Factory Acceptance Tests of equipment.
- Provides supervision of electrical and mechanical trades and contractors during control system and manufacturing equipment installations.
- Documents potentially problematic areas, software defect alerts, troubleshooting tips.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of regulatory codes and standards such as OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act), and NEC (National Electric Code), and NFPA (National Fire Protection Act).
- Knowledge of Distribution Control System (DCS) Programming.
- Knowledge of Electrical Engineering to understand system interactions, sizing of equipment, and fuses.
- Knowledge of HMI/SCADA Configuration as needed to complete required tasks and assignments.
- Knowledge of PLC Programming
- Knowledge of Robotics
- Knowledge of Project Management
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access required.
- Knowledge of Visual Basic required.
- Knowledge of vision systems
- Knowledge of computers
- Skill in using Rockwell Automation Software (e.g., RSLogix500, RSLogix5000, PanelBuilder32, RS View, RSLinx, etc.)
- Skill in using hands (i.e., screwdriver, hammer, etc.) and power tools.
Physical Abilities:
- Physical Ability to make skillful coordinated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.
- Physical Ability to stoop, crouch, or crawl as needed to repair or determine the need for repair of equipment.
- Physical Ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Physical Ability to see close environmental stimuli.
Special Requirements:
- Must be willing to work extended hours or varying shifts to include weekends and holidays to install equipment and/or modify equipment when needed.
Your Qualifications:
- Requires a BS in an Engineering discipline, Electrical Engineering preferred, but others considered plus five years of demonstrated experience in designing and maintaining PLC/HMI based control systems, to include the implementation/validation/commissioning.
