Job Description

Industry 4.0 within Lear Corporation is underpinned through the integration of intelligent digital technologies and analytical systems into manufacturing and industrial processes. Lear Corporation’s industry 4.0 strategy is primarily divided into 2 key operating functions. Firstly, the successful project management and execution of industry 4.0 initiatives into our manufacturing operations. Secondly, the digital analysis and data gleaned from visual management systems ensuring Lear takes informed decisions across its wider business maximizing our operational efficiency whilst upholding the highest quality standards ensuring that Lear’s operational and financial objectives can be achieved. 

As part of the EU iDEA Team, the iDEA Project Engineer is tasked with coordinating and supporting the execution of the iDEA projects within the fields of Robotics, Automation, Maintenance, Digital Twin, Vision Systems and EOL Systems with the aim of operationalizing them into EU & Africa JIT, Trim and Structures Plants, as part of the EU I4.0 strategy. Working as part of the deployment team specifically for vision systems and AI projects being implemented across the plants by managing key aspects of each project whilst supporting communication with designated suppliers, collaborating with plant teams to deliver working solutions that align with Lear’s overall iDEA strategy. With increasing focus on vision systems, the iDEA Project Engineer would need to have several years of experience working with industrial cameras and integrating them into their manufacturing processes. 

Responsibilities

•    Creates process standards, guidelines, work instructions, trainings for solutions being deployed by the team.
•    Supports the creation of Industry iDEA playbook aligned to corporate direction, as required.
•    Supports the design of fixtures necessary for the deployment of the solutions.
•    Responsible of the installation of the solutions and projects in the plant.
•    Coordinate various aspects of the installation of vision systems such as: HW installation, controls, network requirements and automation integration with the required resources from the plant. 
•    First point of contact for the plant team for the deployment of the solutions.  
•    Supports and coordinates testing and trials to be done on site with different plants.  
•    Ensures all Lear EHS standard and local authority regulations are complied with, during all projects 
•    Performs and documents technical studies and analysis made on different sites and with different conditions regarding the feasibility of implementation and for the installation itself.
•    Prepares documentation needed by the plant to start with the deployment of the solution
•    Supports on technical training to the key users of the plant regarding software, user interface, maintenance routines, etc. 
•    Proposes solutions to solve problems during installation and deployment and triggers actions to ensure these are done by the plant. 

Education Requirements

•    University Degree ascertained in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, Automation Engineering or comparable discipline 
•    3-5 years’ work experience in a related field or position within a manufacturing company 
•    Fluency in English language both written and verbal.

Technical & Personal Requirements

•    Experience in a manufacturing engineering role, automation engineering, machine vision engineering, controls engineering or robotics engineering. 
•    Machine vision and image processing knowledge: industrial cameras (Cognex, Keyence, etc). Lightening techniques and optics, lens selection and focal lengths, image acquisition and image quality optimization, pattern recognition, OCR/OCV, defect detection and classification, 2D and 3D vision systems.
•    Automation and controls: PLCs, HMI systems, sensors and actuators, I/O wiring and commissioning, functional testing, safety systems and procedures (IEC wiring regulations, LOTO, ATEX/CompEx) and CE requirements

•    Network and Industrial communication: knowledge regarding TCP/IP, IP addressing, subnetting, gateways, VLAN basics, profinet, ethernet/IP, troubleshooting communication issues between PLCs, HMIs, cameras, and servers.
•    Preferred: some experience on programming and ML, DL knowledge for image analysis, training models and automation. Python, OpenCV, Tensorflow/Pytorch, vision system scripting tools, SQL databases, API integration.
•    3D model interpretation, knowledge of GD&T standards
•    Confidence in presenting to peers and team leaders from plant and central organization
•    Strong analytical skills / problem solving skills with accuracy and attention to detail 
•    Willingness and flexibility to travel within the role (approximately 50%).
