SENIOR AUTOMOTIVE TEXTILE DESIGNER

SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN

 

As the Senior Automotive Textile Designer at Lear, you will spearhead the creation of innovative and functional automotive textiles, playing a crucial role in defining the aesthetics of vehicle interiors. This position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to transform conceptual designs into tangible solutions that bolster Lear's leadership in the automotive textile industry.

 

Development Activities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Collaborating with R&D and commercial managers to develop textiles that meet aesthetic, performance, and cost criteria.
  • Generating and refining CAD designs, transforming concepts into production-ready textile samples.
  • Managing the lifecycle of textile designs from concept through to production, ensuring alignment with technical and commercial standards.
  • Participate in regular design reviews, presenting ideas and receiving feedback, making necessary adjustments to align with project goals and market expectations.
  • Develop and refine presentation formats and marketing strategies that elevate the visibility and appeal of new textile designs, both internally and in customer interactions.

The Hour-by-Hour Task Breakdown with Percentages:

  • Engaging in customer meetings and internal collaborations to develop new designs (20% of the day).
  • Conducting trend analysis and material research to inform design directions (30% of the day).
  • Overseeing the production development and sample evaluation processes (50% of the day).

 

Your Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Textile Design or a related field, with at least 8 years of industry experience.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating design creativity and technical skills.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and an understanding of various fabric constructions and yarn qualities.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel for business needs and participate in industry events.

 

Bonus If You Have:

  • Advanced skills in secondary process applications for textiles.
  • Experience leading creative and marketing strategy developments in the textile sector.
