SENIOR MATERIALS ENGINEER
SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN
As a member of the Connection Systems team, the materials engineer will be responsible for managing material catalogs in Lear CS by supporting purchasing and engineering with material related topics. Scope includes consolidation and expansion of material offerings as well as development and cataloging of material performance data. The support includes plastics, metals and silicone rubbers.
The Role:
Your work will include, but not be limited to:
Support Design and Development related to Materials for Terminals and Connectors
- Contact for Lear approved material suppliers
- Support Lear product development during concept phase and serial production
- Ensure development adherent to IS0 / Automotive Quality standards (IS0 16949 / LV214 / USCAR)
- Utilize of LEAR databases (TDB/SEM/ProFile)
- Manage and expand technical data around Lear material database
- Support engineering with definition of material evaluation studies to ensure proper material selection.
Cross functional communication
- Frequent communication with cross functional teams in prototyping and product development based in Europe, Asia and USA
- Working collaboratively to define customer milestones with Sales and global design and innovation team
- Support resident Engineers on site
Innovation and Market Benchmarking
- Identify reasonable material innovations in the market
- Present New Product innovation concepts to managers/directors
- Identify and attend networking events
- Start collaboration with University to sponsor Research Projects
- Communicate the market trends for future

Your Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of experience in material engineering.
- Team player, self-motivated, self-starter.
- Capable to develop and check engineering material specifications
